Hospice Inpatient Unit

Years ago, a family could expect the physician to visit the patient at home, especially when the patient was having severe symptoms or uncontrolled pain. Today, Altus Hospice Inpatient Units provide the patient and family this same level of care in a comfortable setting that reminds them of home. Our Medical Directors conduct daily onsite visits to assess patient conditions and re-evaluate medical orders.

Our Inpatient Units are made available to all hospice patients who are in need of inpatient pain control or symptom management which cannot be provided in other settings. Patients must meet general hospice admission criteria for admission.

The facility provides patient and family-centered care in accordance with the patient’s plan of care. Each patient receives treatments and medications as prescribed, and is kept comfortable, clean, well-groomed, and protected from accident, injury, and infection.

A registered nurse experienced in providing direct care to hospice patients is available on-site at all times. All therapeutic diets are planned, prepared and served with consultation from a licensed and registered dietician.

Our nursing staff also includes registered nurses (RNs), licensed vocational nurses (LVNs) and certified nurse assistants (CNAs) to ensure that each patient’s medical needs are met in a timely, compassionate and professional manner.

Psycho-social and spiritual care is available 24-hours a day, 7 days a week.

Patients will be evaluated on a case by case basis and once admitted, may remain under the supervision of their Attending Physician.
